Many years ago I tried, unsuccessfully, to take the well-beaten path of 9 to 5 and keeping up with the Joneses. I write about that other, unmarked path, the one filled with detours, dead ends, hitchhikers, kitschy roadside attractions, and unexpected destinations.

For most of my adult life, I wandered the planet. In 2018, the path led me home, to the northern Michigan wilderness. And back to the most foreign territory of all: the cultural mindset I fled all those years ago. My writing has begun to shift from travel memoir to my deepening communion with nature. The exploration continues.

From 2012-2021, Wish I Were Here was based at Wordpress.com. I’ve brought the best posts along with me to Substack. They can be found in the archives.

Those who become paid subscribers for at least one month ($5 USD) will have access to my full-length memoir, Wish I Were Here.

My regular newsletters will always be free for everyone.
