Many years ago I tried, unsuccessfully, to take the well-beaten path of 9 to 5 and keeping up with the Joneses. I write about that other, unmarked path, the one filled with detours, dead ends, hitchhikers, kitschy roadside attractions, and unexpected destinations.

For most of my adult life, I wandered the planet. In 2018, the path led me home, to the northern Michigan wilderness. And back to the most foreign territory of all: the cultural mindset I fled all those years ago. My writing has begun to shift from travel memoir to my deepening communion with nature. The exploration continues.

From 2012-2021, Wish I Were Here was based at Wordpress.com. I’ve brought my favorite posts along with me to Substack.

My newsletters are free. Those who become paid subscribers for at least one month ($5 USD) will have access to the ebook version of my full-length memoir, Wish I Were Here.

Unless otherwise noted, all words and photos are my creations. Do not borrow them without permission.
